Welcome to Puerto
Rico's website which is hosted by Trails
To The Past.
My name is Charlie
Vines and I am the host.
If you find any
errors on this site or if you would like to contribute to this project,
please contact
me.
Although I do host
this site, I do not live in this territory; therefore, my ability to
assist with any research will be extremely limited. I will be
adding a volunteer page in the future. This will provide
everyone researching this county to help each other.
The
Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of
the
United States located in the northeastern Caribbean Sea.
Puerto
Rico is one of the Greater Antilles Islands which also includes Cuba,
Hispaniola (Dominican Republic and Haiti) and Jamaica. Puerto
Rico consist of the main island as well as several smaller surrounding
islands. It is the smallest of the four island in land area
and
third in population. According to the 2010 United States
Census,
the population of Puerto Rico approximately 3.7 million
people
which is larger than many of the U. S. states. Its population
is
comparable to Oklahoma and Oregon. Puerto Rico's capital is
San Juan.
Puerto Rico is divided into 78 municipalities which function as
counties. The first municipality was San Juan in 1521.
